My Students

The students at my school represent almost every continent in the world. There are children who are first generation Americans as well as students who have deep roots in Georgia and surrounding states. The culture that comes with these students provides so much room for teaching and learning from one another, especially through art.

Art is one of the earliest forms of communication between humans and it still holds true as one of the most impressionable.

Middle school is a great time to expose students to their real potential artistically in order to motivate them to continue with the arts in their higher education.

I am thrilled to be a part of this impressionable time in the child's life and look forward to exposing the students to materials that will heighten their excitement about art.

My Project

These materials will be used in 6th 7th and 8th-grade classes to expand students knowledge of art and shape their impression of art in middle school. Students in my class will use the clay and glazes to create a mask based upon their own "ancient culture." They will be inspired by pictures of ancient masks and mold their own. Other classes will be learning how to draw from observation using real professional drawing pencils to create an illusion of a 3d figure. We will use the mirrors along with this to help draw self-portraits in a gray scale. This project is a great lesson to help build kids' confidence because most students at this point have not learned and used techniques to draw realistically. Students will use paint brushes and paper to paint artist inspired portraits of their choice!
