My Students

My students are creating documentaries based on the research they complete in their social studies classes. The students collect still photos about their projects, create "scripts" that they use to narrate their stories, and use the film editing tools that are provided with the iMovie software.

My students come from various backgrounds both racially, and ethnically, as well as socioeconomically.

For many of my students my computer class is the only chance they can work on a computer, learning about technology, using research tools, and even learning computer code. My hope is to give the students a chance to develop real-life skills they can take from the classroom and use in their future endeavors.

My Project

The students will by using the headphones with microphones to develop iMovie documentaries based on the research they have completed both in their regular classes and in my lab. They create a "script" which will be the basis of their narration that will go along with the still photos they collect based on their social studies topics. The students will then use the editing software included in iMovie to hopefully create a love for movie editing/music editing(they will use Garageband to create a soundtrack) that will help them in their future.

The project is part of an ongoing push to help students become both college ready as well as give them real-life skills they can use in adulthood.

Without these microphones the students wouldn't get the chance to create anything more than a silent documentary. With the microphones the students will be able to record their voices based on a script they create on their topic and that movie is then placed on a school blog that can be reviewed by their parents.
