Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is such a fundamental part of our everyday lives. I constantly tell my students that an open book brings a world of adventure for a reader. It's like taking a school trip everyday when you step inside a book. I believe technology has brought to us many insightful ideas, but has also taken the joy of seeing a student pick up a good old book and loose themselves into it.

My students are eager to learn, to explore, and to read.

They should have the opportunity to read series books at their reading levels, and books that they could relate to as African American, Hispanics,.. and so forth. They should have a classroom library flourishing with children's magazine such as Highlights, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Cobblestone, and many more. But most important, equity should be of the utmost essence among all our students' classroom libraries citywide.

I know my students can grow as readers. Every minute they get an opportunity to read, you see them reading a book, or making a book recommendation. I could only imagine how it would be if we had a classroom library for them to enter adventure everyday,

My Project

With the purchase of this book, Number the Stars, students will be able to have collaborative discussions, and learn to communicate their thoughts and feelings. They will use this historical fiction to learn about one of the most impacting times in history as well as be able to reflect on how we as a society should treat one another.

Number the Stars is a story that helps students reflect upon family relationships, friendships, love, etc... but most importantly to collaborate.

It allows for students to understand that we can not judge anyone unless one knows the real person within. This story will allow students to deeply reflect how to get along with others.
