Imaginary Watercolor Landscapes

Help me give my students the new brushes and watercolor paper to create their imaginary lanscapes.

My Project

In order to teach students about aerial perspectives, watercolor landscapes provide the perfect project. Students will learn not only how to create both a flat and graduated wash, but they will learn the basics of aerial perspective. They will use warm/cool colors and saturation/desaturation of colors to create the difference between foreground, middle ground and background. They will use vertical placement of shapes and detail to show what is close and what is far. Finally, students will learn about range in value to help create depth as well. As the teacher I will lead the class through a basic drawing of a landscape with sky, mountains, hills, fields, etc. Student will then be asked to make the landscape their own, by adding details that makes this basic landscape into a specific scene. Students will have to use what they have learned about aerial. perspective to draw the elements correctly. it is a very fun project as students are engaged in creating their own personal and imaginative reality.
