I’m Floored!

Help me give my students manipulatives such as Phonics Magnetic Word Building Boards, Melissa and Doug floor puzzles, and Fine Motor Peacock Pals to foster student independence and peer cooperation in all students.

My Project

I began kindergarten teaching during COVID. Having to separate students made me aware of how important it is to build self-reliance but at the same time, I witnessed a great need for peer interaction and student relationships.

I want to get my students away from desks completing sheet after sheet of work.

I want to build on students’ curiosity and natural drive to explore. I desire a classroom where kids take to the floor, spread out, and work in their most comfortable position exploring fun educational materials. My goals are to build my students’ curiosity, confidence, involvement, and social skills both independently and collectively.

Items such as magnets make students curious. These are also forgiving of mistakes as magnets are easily moved as opposed to erasing a page. Puzzles are challenging and require comparing and analyzing pieces to see what should and will fit. Competitive games allow students to view how others work so that they too can become successful. Fine motor games improve hand-eye coordination and help a student learn to focus on the task at hand.

My students are active, fun-loving, young people deserving of an explorative environment built on their curiosity and drive. I want them floored by the donation you provide.
