Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher at a wonderful Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York City. Ninety-six percent of our students are eligible for free lunch, but this does not dampen the spirits of these motivated students. Many of my students do not have access to technology in their homes. I have worked very hard to make our classroom a bright and happy environment, despite the struggles many of them face every day. My students are inquisitive, curious, creative and compassionate. They inspire me to be a teacher every day.

I feel blessed to teach my students and I believe that my students are the future leaders of this country.

In first grade, I try my best to engage the kids in literacy centers that stimulate, enhance, and challenge them to practice the literacy skills they need to be successful readers and writers.

My Project

I am requesting a laptop in order to connect with my first graders. Our blended learning model of learning requires remote learning components and this laptop will allow me to connect through live teaching and class discussions.

This laptop will help me in connecting, teaching and providing social-emotional support to my students during this pandemic.

My students need the best possible educational experiences that I can possibly provide them and that is why I need a new computer. My computer is 7 years old and the technology is outdated and that made connecting on Google Classroom and Zoom difficult at times.

Many families are already dealing with many social and economic challenges. If I get this laptop, I will be able to provide the daily interactions my young students need in order to bring some stability and consistency to their lives. First graders are in need of the routines and academic learning experiences so that when they grow up they can become our future leaders.
