My Students

My students are using ancient technology: two 10-year-old Blueberry Apple computers with broken speakers that are not even internet-accessible. They also use an eMac I got from a garage sale.

Our school is a public school in Philadelphia with students from various ethnicities and socioeconomic classes.

My first-grade class consists of 32 students. Of the 32, half are English language learners (ELL) who are identified at the lower socioeconomic level. Many of the parents are immigrants and encourage their children to do well in school.

My Project

Technology is essential. Due to our large class size, using technology will help my students practice skills at their individual levels. Students will be able to use iPad apps to advance to the next academic level. There are apps for history, math, reading and science skills and more.

A new iPad will enhance learning in my classroom; children are very techie and are easily engaged with the newest technology.

An iPad is very mobile and can be shared in the classroom. There are many educational apps that will advance the students' skills. We are in dire need of new technology.
