Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Eyes widen as the computer screen turns on. It is a typical day in the classroom and all of the students are craving to use whatever technology they can get their hands on. Imagine them having the opportunity to "pick up and go" with a classroom iPad!

We are a school in a high needs area with limited resources and technology.

We are a large school of over 1,000 students, and all of the Kindergarten classes are located in a mini-building across the play yard. Each day we walk to and from the "main" building to get to lunch, gym, music, and dismissal. Half of the classroom consists of students that are English Language Learners. These children have energy and enthusiasm! We have one classroom computer that we try our best to use throughout the day so that everyone can get a chance to go on it. The children have the BIGGEST smiles when it is their turn to go on the computer and get a chance to go on the internet and play educational games. The highlight of their day is to get that 10 minute chance to use what their favorite T.V. show and movie characters use, too!

My Project

It is so important to integrate technology into the classroom, especially as it is incorporated into the children's Common Core State Learning Standards. With an iPad, the children will be able to work with partners with their Handwriting, sight words, interactive stories, and number recognition games and apps. The App Store has an endless supply of interventions to give students the opportunities to grow and improve upon their strengths and weaknesses. We will also use it for conferencing. If a child needs help writing a particular sight word, we would be able to immediately draw and write the sight word on the iPad and then inject it into our sentence in our story. We can even set it up to print right off of our classroom printer! It's immediate gratification and immediate learning! Lastly, as their teacher, I plan on using the iPad for data collection to keep track of their conferences, groups, and assessments. Our list of uses is ENDLESS!

Our classroom iPad would change the structure of our classroom and turning it around from a curriculum with limited technology to a curriculum that infuses constant technology to learn and grow.

This iPad would never leave our hands! We would be able to reach all types of learners and reach those technology standards!
