Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a preschool teacher in a Title I school. The majority of my students qualify to receive free meals and are learning English as a second language. They come from low-income neighborhoods where families are struggling economically to make ends meet.

Despite what our country is facing, my preschool students are always ready and eager to learn.

My students love to share their small and big accomplishments with their classmates. As young as they are, they have not allowed this pandemic to stop them from learning.

My Project

I would like to establish a safe, caring, and positive environment with tools and opportunities for students to express their emotions. Students at this age need to be reassured that any feeling they are experiencing is normal.

Social and emotional skills need to be taught, modeled, and practiced and as a result, will lead to positive student outcomes that are essential for success in school and in life.

I will provide a balance between social-emotional learning and academic learning for our youngest learners. The social-emotional literature will help my students develop skills in literacy and oral expression. I will teach my students to apply the knowledge and skills from the stories to understand and manage their own emotions. By using the social-emotional cards I will inspire my students to make connections, maintain positive relationships and make responsible choices. My students are experiencing feelings they struggle to explain. With the use of the emotion match ups students will have multiple opportunities to learn positive ways to express their thoughts and feelings.
