Sir Ken Robinson says, "Creativity is putting your imagination to work, and it's produced the most extraordinary results in human culture." I want my fourth graders to have opportunities to create HD videos to demonstrate their learning and be able to explore the world of coding.
I am so amazed by the genius that lies within my nine and ten year old students.
Many have to overcome adversity and hardships in their everyday lives, but that doesn't stop them from having big dreams for their futures.
I teach a very culturally diverse group of 4th graders. Our school is located in a suburban area and 83% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. While my students are bright and eager to learn, they feel left behind in today's world where they hear of other students who attend tech enriched schools.
My Project
Creating STEAM projects in our science and math allows them to be fully engaged in their learning. Sharing their genius with the world would be possible with this MacBook and iPad mini. They would use the MacBook to create HD movies of their projects that could be uploaded to our YouTube channel. Using Scratch and Minecraft to create learning games, could also happen. With the iPad mini, they could take pictures to import into iMovie for their videos, share their math and science learning with the Explain Everything app, and create games from code using the Hopscotch app.
Having a MacBook and iPad mini would be a step in the right direction of ensuring that my students get the same opportunities to create and share that students from richer neighborhoods enjoy.
Having these tools would certainly allow them to demonstrate their 21st century skills.
