Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are always eager to learn. Many are students who speak anywhere from no English to a good understanding of English and usually speak another language primarily. The children are so eager to learn. They pair up quickly to help those who need it.

The neighborhood is economically and culturally diverse but some families are at a financial and social disadvantage.

My students do not have many opportunities outside the classroom and love learning through hands-on projects during science.

I know coding, stem and engineering is the future for our children and I would love to give them the advantage.

My Project

We are hoping to build a MakerSpace/Play Lab in our school. A huge part of being a maker is creativity. What better way to spark creativity than through building, coding and creating our very own amusement park?

Through the use of the K'Nex kits, Legos and other supplies I am hoping we can build an amusement park as a class effort.

We can use the amusement park as a basis for writing short stories, poems and science investigations.

Imagine how excited the children (of all ages) will be when they build a roller coaster and turn it on to see it lights up and moves and its because they built it! Aside from building social skills, creativity, team work and use of English and new vocabulary words, the students are using their imaginations, writing, becoming persistent and building their stamina before trying to say "I can't" (which isn't acceptable lol).
