My Students

Did you ever take a class that inspired you? This summer I am taking a master's art class, and today we learned how to bind books by sewing them. I did some more research and found TONS of book making ideas online. I'd like to try to make these books with my students.

For the past two years, I've taught Kindergarten, and now I'm moving up to 3rd grade.

Our school is in middle Georgia, and all of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is considered to be high-risk. I can have up to 30 students this year.

My Project

I chose many different materials to make books, including needles (to sew the binding, ziploc bags (to make ziploc books, with colored masking tape decorating the sides), and rubber bands and pipe cleaners to bind construction paper. We will use these books for every subject! They can be poetry books, science books, or even journals. We can use them for morning work and math...the possibilities are endless! Plus, with all these awesome materials, the students will never be bored!

My students don't have many books, so creating their own will give them ownership and put books on their shelves at home.

I also hope that by creating their books, they will be inspired to use art in their lives.
