Help Mrs. P.

I am a second grade teacher in Slidell, Louisiana. The school where I teach is a Title One school, the majority of students are on free or reduced lunch. This is my first year teaching second grade, having taught first grade for many years. I have made a wonderful discovery about second graders: they are past the beginning reading stage, they are ready to become fluent readers. This is where I need your help. I am in need of books with accompanying tapes for my students to listen to. They will visit these stations daily to listen to the stories on tape. They would be able to look at the book, and follow the print while listening to the story. Having listening stations will enable them to have fluency and reading speed modeled for them. These are valuable skills which will help my students with reading comprehension. Replacing materials is quite a costly undertaking, as all of my personal resources lost from Katrina were not insured. I would really appreciate any help given. Please help us "listen to learn."
