Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom. My new students are ages 5 and 6 years old with various developmental delays. My students come from underserved families, many are low-income and presented with life challenges such as poverty and mental health. Their fresh and smiling faces give me high hopes for an exciting learning adventures this school year. What I really love about them is how much they inspire me to do my job everyday. Although we have just been together for a short time, I can feel their eagerness to learn (despite of individual challenges), whose simple joys come from learning something new, no matter how big or small these strides might be.

My Project

These learning materials will provide multi-sensory learning experiences to my students while working on much needed skills. These materials will address different levels of skills focusing on two subject areas, reading and math. I hope to improve my students level of engagement and independence during small groups and independent work using these fun, educational games. By being able to work together using these resources, I believe that my new students will develop a sense of classroom community, with emphasis on accepting everyone's abilities and supporting each other to learn and grow.
