My students need 2 iPad minis and covers to differentiate instruction. A variety of apps can be applied to help students manage their disabilities and learning differences.
Many students are able to orally communicate or write to express themselves. However some students are unable to do either of those due to a variety of disabilities. My special need students enjoy learning when they have been offered interactive technology.
In addition to differentiating instruction for the majority of my class, I also serve a variety of students with their own set of particular learning disabilities in the classroom.
Many of my students do not feel successful in the work they produce or need more interactive technology to meet their needs. A few of my students have difficulty communicating their academic needs orally or in writing. My school is a low-income and under-served population of students that rarely have technology at home. I know my students can achieve academic success if they are given the right tools.
My Project
The ipad mini offers a plethora of apps that will help supplement my students' needs. I would primarily like to use it for students who are unable to learn through traditional methods of "pencil & paper" activities. It will provide many apps to address the development of fine motor skills which are needed in writing and other pertinent skills.
I would like to be able to offer my students another way to demonstrate their understanding of the common core standards and be able to understand how technology can help them overcome their disabilities and learning differences.
