Help Mrs. Costner

I changed schools this year and found myself teaching 4th grade in a high poverty school. Our state and county funding is very limited due to the economy, but I have a very caring class of students who love to learn.

Our library does not have the resources that most other schools in our district have. I want to use a certain book with my class to get them excited about reading. Last year my class tracked the racers in the Iditarod Race in Alaska. It was a great unit of study that intergrated many subject areas. I read the book "The Mystery on the Iditarod Trail" to my class as a read aloud because it was above their reading level. Well, it is just right for my class to read independently this year and I would love to follow the race with my new class.

We will read the books, track and graph our mushers, learn about the weather and climate in Alaska, make husky puppies in math using estimation and weights, and keep a journal throughout the race.

This was a great unit last year! We even sent a letter that was carried by a musher on the trail! Please help me by purchasing the books needed to make this an exciting unit of study.
