My Project

Identity, whether cultural, racial, or personal, is the primary place where we begin to face the world and learn how to interact, accept, and relate to others. Our 8th-grade students at our middle school are approaching the finish line of middle school and will soon start a new adventure as high schoolers. This is a milestone moment for self-definition, identity affirmation, and growth. Our collaborative art project is designed to spark conversation about personal identity, racial acceptance, and cultural belief. Through artistic expression and guided conversation, we plan to explore who we are and how we form and carry our beliefs forward.

Our artwork project is designed to shine and sparkle in the sun and show our identity with pride to all who view our installation.

Our pieces will be displayed together on our fences around campus. We will be using acrylic paint markers to design CD blanks as an expression of our inner self. This is a tremendous opportunity for our staff and counselors to guide our students through discussion about cultural and racial differences, identity-affirmation, and personal development.
