My Project
I am a special education teacher in NY. My school is an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. We have a large population of English language learners. The staff at our school prides ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives. Many of the English Language Learners in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and delays in motor skills.
Many of my children have several different learning styles and I am need of math resources to meet the specific needs of each of them.
I am requesting dry erase math skills white boards to assist my students in showing how they can answer math problems in our classroom. 2nd graders use these tools to add and subtract double digit numbers throughout the year. I am also requesting a stool that my students will use to present their work to the class. This will help them gain language skills and self-confidence throughout the school year.
Finally, I am requesting black construction paper to use as mats to display students work throughout our classroom. I am excited to see the children admire each other's work throughout the year.
I know that these materials will help the English language learners and students with disabilities in my class increase their language and math skills throughout the year.
