This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 3 year olds are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They thrive while living in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will every have to endure in a lifetime. Yet every day, they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood and find solace in our classroom. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.
My students blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.
For all of them, coming to school is where they have any opportunities to build their academic and social foundations to set them up for success later in life.
My Project
As the old saying goes, "Children Are the Future" and its up to the children to help protect our planet. It's because of this, our 3 year olds will spent 6 weeks on a unit of study that will help them learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle in an effort to help them protect the planet.
We have to teach children that trashing their environment could trash their future.
These books will help us to educate our students and provide them with different ideas on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Several of the books will also help to educate students on where their trash goes and what happens to it once it gets there. We will use the books as a foundation to reduce, reuse, and recycle in the classroom and use various materials in our art work, building, and writing.
