Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"It takes a village to educate a child." That is so true but it also takes great and interesting books. Every time I am doing a new project with my students, I feel a little embarrassed because I'm constantly asking my colleagues to lend me books.

My students are vibrant, eager readers who love to read a good book in order to learn and improve their reading skills.

This is something that is a shortcoming for them due to the fact that our classroom library books are really old, not on their levels, and books don't look interesting. Also, we do not have enough on the subjects we are studying. My school's budget is not sufficient to give us books right now and since our school is located in a poor neighborhood, asking parents for donations will be a burden upon them. Therefore, we do the best we can with what we have and reach out to people's generosity to give our students what they need and deserve.

My Project

A library with books on their levels and on subjects of interest to my students will deepen in them that eagerness and desire for reading and learning that they already possess. I can see and feel the light in their eyes when they will look at books that not only look interesting but that they will be able to read independently. Having these books will help them do their research and complete their projects on time. No more waiting for the other children to finish. No more waiting for the teacher to help them read the book because it is too hard. They will also enjoy reading them for pleasure because they will be more appealing. They will be able to learn on their own about anything they want.

Your donation to my project will help my classroom because my students will be able to have books that they will be able to read independently.

They will be in charge of their own learning and improve their reading, comprehension, and research skills. They will be more eager to read and learn new things. Remember "It takes a village to educate a child" and part of that village is a great library. Give to my project to make this quote a reality in my classroom.
