About My Students

Trevor, Anna, and Sophie are the creative leaders in our drama club. I am excited by the hidden talents that are beginning to surface.

These students have been asking for some time to have a drama club. These talented young people are not quitters and have been persistent at finding resources. In our drama club the kids wanted to look as real as the animals in the actual Lion King movie. They sing and dance everywhere with other students. There are other students who are drawn to performing arts and they, like the creative leaders, want to help to grow a fantastic drama club.

Our students in this student-created drama club will write their own plays and music. The teachers at our school are working with them on speaking, communication, and displaying confidence. They will learn what it means to be a team. Most importantly, they learn not to give up.

In Their Own Words

I want a drama club at my school. We focus on academics all day. We are full of drama at my school, the good kind. My friends and I sing, dance, write music and stories. We have hidden talents that are ready for others to see. Learning takes place in many ways, including the performing arts. At the end of the school year we want to put on a Lion King production for the school and community.

In this leadership position, our team will schedule the auditions, form community partners, and put on a play. We will recruit other students to share their talents and encourage anyone who wants to be a part of the play on or off the stage to participate.

This project is important to me because I will be able to show a side of me that most of my friends don't ever see. The learning environment should expand outside of the classroom. The drama club will be an outlet for some kids. This is also a great way to share with our community something else positive going on at my school. This project is another way to enable students to connect with each other, build new friendships, and expand education.
