Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be working with a very diverse group of students with diverse needs and interests. I will be teaching in a resource room setting to students in kindergarten, first, second, and third grade. My school consists of many ESOL (English as a Second Language) and within the last 3 years, 90% of my students have been Hispanic-American. We are currently a Title I school. We also have many students that receive free and reduced lunches. I am positive that all my students will flourish tremendously throughout the year as they grow and become more independent.

I would love to allow them to grow independently within our classroom environment, as they work with me or on their own.

My Project

For this upcoming school year, my plan is to implement flexible seating, which will allow each student to take charge of his or her learning while being engaged and less disruptive of their peers. Students will be allowed to choose where they would like to sit while completing independent assignments. Students will have the option to choose from different seating, such as stools, balance balls, donut balls, wobble cushions, or they could even stand since there will also be standing desks. By having alternative seating options, students will be able to avoid distractions and focus on increasing their learning!

By allowing students to choose alternative seating arrangements, they will have their own space to work and learn what works best for them as an individual.

By implementing flexible seating within the classroom environment students will also learn to have more ownership of their work. and it will help with engagement. Flexible seating + engagement= personal success, which students can be proud of.
