Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many special needs students, particularly those with autism spectrum disorders or sensory processing issues, can benefit from sensory input. Items like sequin pillows provide tactile stimulation, while bean bag chairs offer proprioceptive input.

These items can create a more comfortable and relaxing environment, which may help reduce anxiety and stress.

This can be particularly beneficial for students who struggle with sensory overload or have attention difficulties.

For some students, having a sensory item to interact with can actually improve focus. The ability to fidget with a sequin pillow or sink into a bean bag chair may help them channel excess energy and maintain attention on learning tasks.

Also, these items can serve as comfort objects, providing a sense of security and emotional regulation for students who may feel overwhelmed or anxious in the classroom setting. Additionally, these items can be used as part of a reward system, allowing students to earn time with preferred sensory items for completing tasks or exhibiting positive behaviors.

My goal for this project would be for it to get fully funded and my donors see the immediate impact it will have on my students. My students are the most unique in the world, in my eyes, and my goal for my students would be, to understand that their school is a safe space and that we truly care about our students as a whole.
