This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My PreK class is located in the South Bronx in a NYC public school. My students come from immigrant families, essential worker families, single parent families, and foster homes, all of whom have been greatly impacted by the Corona Virus Pandemic. Despite adversity, my students and their families kept daily communication, and participation with remote learning. Everyday my students greeted each other with smiles and excitement to connect, play, and learn new things on Google Meets. I am so proud of not only their hard work but also their families’ commitment to their education.
My Project
The Medify medical grade filtration True HEPA air purifier will provide clean air to my students, my assistant, and myself. My school is located in the South Bronx on the Major Deegan Expressway. Many of my students have asthma from the neighborhood's air pollution. The building is over 115 years old. At this time the school does not have an HVAC or air purifying system. Currently my school is under major construction. The building is getting new floors, pointing on the exterior bricks, installing an elevator in my hallway, and replacing the boilers.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all classroom windows are to be open to assist with circulating air, which will allow construction dust, exhaust, and air pollution to enter the classroom.
Having an air purifier will clean the air from pollutants, viruses, bacteria, lead dust, and asbestos. Help protect our lungs in PreK 116.
