Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

What excites me is that my students took the time to think about my class and work I do with them. I was impressed with the fact that they realized that some of my lesson could be enhance by simply incorporating technology.

One day during class, my students noticed that I was struggling to use a laptop in class. My students started to make comments about the laptop; they stated that, "It was outdated and I need to step it up in the new age." During the duration of the class discussion, one of my students started talking about doing a PowerPoint presentation in class to make the class more interesting and fun. I asked the student to continue to explain the idea. My student stated that, "When she was in middle school her technology teacher made them do PowerPoint presentations." Other students started asking her more questions and then the entire class got involved in the discussion. I was feeling embarrassed and hurt all at the same time. I felt that I was not providing the best learning opportunity for my students. Being aware of the many challenges that my students deal with on a daily basis, I should be more motivated to provide the best opportunity to enhance their academic environment.

I think that this project will help my students visually and develop their presentation skills, especially speaking to a larger audience. Learning how to speak in the public helps all students get more comfortable speaking before a group and within various settings. If students are able to practice this in school, this will make them better college students. Writing is another skill that will benefit a student for the rest of their life, both personally and professionally. Learning how to write and being able to understand the process of writing, which involves writing, editing, rewriting, and proofreading, is a skill that many employers would love for young professionals to have. Finally, I believe that the skill of teamwork is a valuable skill that should be introduced in early in a students academic life. The benefit of this skill will help students work together to get a job done.

In Their Own Words

This section was written by Heidy, 9th grader: The goal we are trying to accomplish is to make PowerPoint in order to reach our highest peek of academic knowledge in Global class. Having an opportunity to do this in class will definitely make the class more interesting and learning fun.

This was written by Jorge, 9th grader: With our teacher's help, we will be able to become leaders in bringing this project to life, because we will have more opportunities in learning and thinking with complexity. We can achieve this by having a direct visual presentation. This project will help Ms. J, because she will be able to create better and more understanding power points for the entire class. I think that a new laptop for global class will benefit me in many ways. For example: we will be able to use the projector for work and readings online. This is very helpful, because I can see the board more clearly and understand our lesson being taught. Also, this will help with learning videos online that grabs other students, as well as my attention. Lastly, a new laptop will help Ms. J to enter grades more efficiently, which means we get feedback sooner, and our grade is always up to date.

This was written by Rafalina, 9th grader: I think that this project is important because all students use technology everyday. We use our cell phones to text and search on the Internet for different types of information. This project will help Ms. Jackson because she will be able to create better and more understanding power points for the entire class. Additionally this will help students visualize our lesson. This will also be beneficial to the teacher because she can create lots of lessons, projects, quizzes, and test for all classes more efficiently. Lastly she can show the class educational videos.
