This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher in the Bronx. I am currently the teacher for Academic Intervention Services for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. I help students who are struggling to keep up in the classroom due to a lack of important reading and writing skills. My job is to provide small group instruction for these children every day to give them the strategies they need in order to become better readers and writers. Reading and writing are some of the most important skills a child needs in order to be successful and I want to be able to provide my students with the best instruction so that they cannot only improve their literacy skills but also develop a love for literacy in their everyday lives.

My Project

I have chosen different types of flexible seating for my classroom. Many students in my class have special needs and need options in the type of seating they are given in order to be productive in class.

These seats will give them the opportunity to work comfortably, which will make their engagement in learning increase while they are with me.

The pocket chart I chose is large and allows me to display information for students no matter where they are sitting in the classroom. I know that by creating an environment where the information is accessible and they can learn in a way that is comfortable to them, my students will be able to focus and progress in reading.
