I Like to Move It, Move It!

Help me give my students a return to movement! After so much time hunched in front of screens, I'm hoping to provide tools such as the wobble seat and balance board to challenge their brains & bodies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an occupational therapist who works with students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade at a New York City public school. We work and play to develop the foundational skills the students need for participating as fully and independently as possible in their everyday school routines and activities. The skill areas we work on include gross motor, fine motor, visual motor, and perceptual skills, body awareness/motor planning, sensory processing, self-regulation, executive functioning, and life skills.

My students are playful, tenacious, and eager to learn, despite our level of resources.

Having access to a variety of tools and materials (for both in-person and remote learning) will further their ability to achieve their highest levels of engagement in school and beyond!

My Project

As we finally return to in-person learning, I am seeking tools for my students to allow the opportunity to re-engage their bodies and brains to promote higher-level skills. We will use these tools to develop core muscles and body awareness, as well as promoting sensory processing and self-regulation by moving around the room and when sitting at a table.

By promoting motor skills, as well as novel and entertaining activities and tools, my students can better understand what their bodies need in order to fully develop, self-regulate, and achieve their highest potential in the classroom.
