This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third graders are eager to become global citizens and learn about the world around them. These thoughtful, curious, inquisitive young scholars and scientists are hungry for learning. They enjoy creative brain breaks, challenging real-world math problems, and critical thinking. Above all, they value being kind and being fair. I have never been prouder of a group of students.

We are a Title I public school in eastern Las Vegas full of kind, thoughtful, inquisitive young learners.

Our inclusion classroom welcomes a plethora of different types of learners and embraces all.

My Project

In third grade math, a bulk of our year is spent on elapsed time, measurement, multiplication, regrouping with addition and subtraction, and number sense. We love to make our learning hands-on, but lack the necessary materials.

My students are eager to learn, but need hands-on materials to move and manipulate as they tackle abstract and complex math skills.

I am requesting number lines for rounding, student clocks to figure out elapsed time and telling time to the exact minute, place value materials for adding and subtracting, and critical thinking activities to analyze errors on the way to becoming more systematic problem solvers. I am requesting hands-on math materials to engage my students in real world problem solving.

In my inclusion classroom, my students come with a wide range of background knowledge in terms of math. Unfortunately, some already come with math anxiety (at eight!), so by providing hands-on practice where we can move it, move it, I hope to show my students that the world of math isn't so scary after all.
