My Students

I can't hear! With so many distractions in our world and in our classrooms, especially for kindergarteners, it is nice to be able to sit down and focus on a great story to help us learn, make us laugh and tickle our brain.

Our school is one of the first in our area that includes students of all abilities in a single classroom.

Students who develop typically, students with special needs and students who are gifted, learn side-by-side, with each other and from each other. All of are students are resilient individuals that, despite their differences, make our school a welcoming community.

My Project

A new listening center will provide my students with the opportunity to listen to new stories, read along with text in front of them (instead of in the teacher's hand) and encourage them to read more. Not only will they be able to enjoy text at this center but my classroom was recently awarded iPods for use everyday. I envision the new listening center becoming a place where students can not only listen to stories but play reading games, math games and practice writing and spelling with the iPods. An entire listening station where all students can enjoy a different game or activity to promote learning and have fun! Students of all abilities can enjoy the listening center which makes it the best part of all. Students can work together to read or listen to a single book, listen to a story independently, play a game and have all their friends hear their success or play a game with a partner and make a new friend. The possibilities are endless with such a simple device.

My students will all benefit from a single station where they can have fun, learn and maintain focus.

This listening center can become so many different things for my students that it is unfortunate that not every classroom is provided with one.
