My Students

My school is a Title I school. Over 90 percent of our student population is receiving free or reduced-price lunch, and they are limited in their life experiences due to low socioeconomic​ backgrounds.

My students are special and come from a household with love and support, but their parents may not have much.

My students are very curious and energetic. Even though the students have many needs, they are eager to learn as much as possible in all areas. They seek out activities that are authentic and enriching. My students are happy to come to school with smiling faces even in this new normal.

My Project

Using manipulatives to learn about numbers can help my students understand abstract ideas concretely. Each student grasps and learns the concept of numbers differently. Some students need to learn these abstract ideas kinetically.

Munipulatives can help improve their learning by using their hands and learning kinetically and visually.

As a primary grade, my students need to master how numbers are made up which is the basic idea of addition. Manipulatives support students to envision an understanding of ideas that they can then connect to mathematical vocabulary and symbols.

Students also can use manipulatives as concrete models to solve problems. Colorful and interestingly shaped number blocks will motivate and interest students to learn math.
