Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Microphones and recording devices makes perfect tools to practice speaking and listening skills in English. I work with many of my students in small pull-out groups. They will be listening to each other as well as speaking. When they first hear themselves speak in English, they may laugh or feel embarrassed. The headphones will allow for privacy, if my students don't want anyone else to hear them initially. Recording their voices while reading aloud and speaking is a productive method to self-monitor their language progress. Not only will they be able to record and play back these recordings, but they can apply technology through the use of apps on a tablet and use their voices to create projects and present personal narratives in a podcast format. These activities, in turn, increase their mental health in a positive way. If my students are in a comfortable environment with useful audio tools, their growth, both in language and self-esteem, will be endless!

They will earn how to build language confidence using audio equipment and recording devices, as well as learn different types of speaking that are dependent on a scenario (interview, public speaking, getting to know someone, etc).
