My Students

My students love to read and are looking for inspiration!

I teach at a very high poverty Title I school and most of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students need to learn about famous people in history. What better way to show them that anyone can overcome anything, than building a class library full of books pertaining to the important people in history that we study according to the Virginia Standards of Learning? These famous people include; George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller, Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King Jr., and Jackie Robinson.

My Project

Attending a high poverty Title I school, our students do not receive the much needed materials that are essential and necessary to every successful classroom. These books will aid in helping my students learn about the important contributions these famous people made and how they influenced our lives. More importantly since our current textbooks do not give mention to these famous people, it is vital that we find resources to obtain the materials needed for our standardized test. Having this library will also develop their love for reading, building their vocabulary and comprehension skills in our classroom and our school.
