Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This school year, 2021-2022, I really want to take the approach of "Getting Things Done."

I am currently teaching High School Special Education Grades 7-12 and my class consists of 6 students who are in their teens and have a classification of Autism.

These kids come into school every day with a smile on their face, ready to learn. Their resiliency and their determination to learn is what motivates me everyday. They come from all different corners of this city and my kids are AWESOME! Really no other way to say it.

Our class is an entirely new class to our school this year and I want to make them proud of their class and their school environment. I want my scholars to feel comfortable and safe in our room and once they see the level of support paired with meaningful intent, they will open up and flourish inside and out of the classroom. My students deserve the best that we have to offer because they expect a lot from their school staff.

My Project

In those sensitive times when my students are unable to communicate how they feel, these items can provide my students the relief they need in that instant moment.

Simply put, these are supplies and materials that will work wonders for my students.

Here, you will see items such as a calming ball, tactile sensory items that can help my students stimulate throughout the school day and a bean bag chair that can provide a soothing environment for my students.

It's still a gauging period for my students and I, and I am learning how best I can reach them. I have seen similar materials be used for some students even while they are learning as it helps to keep their focus and attention on the task placed in front of them.
