Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Building a counseling space where students feel comfortable expressing their feelings and have access to calming tools and resources that enhance student's SEL skills is important. SEL skills are essential for academic learning and success. Research shows that social and emotional skills such as problem solving, impulse control, empathy, and self- regulation aid in creating a positive classroom culture and school climate.

Our dual language (Spanish) learners can benefit from bilingual books and interactive games and activities that build on their social and emotional skills and add to a cozy and calming counseling space.

The Face to Face Transitions card games allow students to practice decision-making skills as they think about choices to make throughout various scenarios while processing the transition from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school. The Behind Anger card game teaches children to identify emotions behind anger and develop positive strategies for self-regulation. The sensory stickers and feelings chart provide students with visual strategies they can practice to calm their bodies. The bilingual feelings book will provide a fun and engaging way to teach children about different emotions. Please help me expand our counseling resources and support students in managing their emotions, and learning self-regulation and coping skills, which are crucial for social interactions and building relationships.
