Help me give my students books that make them want to break the rules and read when they should be sleeping, read when they should be doing class work, read when they should be doing chores!

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school is different. We are a 5-8 campus in a small town. The coolest thing about our school is that we are a public service school. One Saturday a month, all of the teachers work with a portion of the student body on a community-based project. We have prepped materials for shoes in third world countries, cleaned streets in the community, made snuggle blankets for patients at the children's hospital, and put together care packages for soldiers.
My students are learning to love reading!
The first ten minutes of every class period is our reading time, and I am proud to say that every single one of my students is reading! My students are all over the place when it comes to reading levels, but being able to read whatever they want seems to ease the pressure. Many of my reluctant readers have even said that they are starting to enjoy reading. On the few days where the bell ringer must be something else, it makes me proud that they complain about not being able to read.
My Project
I tell my students that claim to not like reading that they just have not found the right genre or book, yet. I consider it my job to find them those elusive books.
Young adults struggle with so much, and my students are no different.
My classes are so diverse, and the books that I chose reflect that. From BLACK BOY, WHITE SCHOOL to 180 SECONDS, I tried to include books that might appeal to many different students as well as a few series books to get reluctant readers engaged in an ongoing story line. Building readers builds lifelong learners.
