My Students

My sixth-grade classes are comprised of 80 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are excited about learning and about being able to return to the classroom. I believe that all students deserve the opportunity to be educated in the best way possible. I have learned many valuable lessons from teaching virtually to returning from the "blip". My goal is to help students fill in the gaps and to prepare them for success in high school, college, and beyond.

My Project

Before the pandemic, students were hard at work in the garden as they were preparing the soil for planting for the upcoming school year. The existing set of tools were falling apart and many were fixed from years past. After returning from being away for over a year, the set of tools that had been used were completely gone or broken. We are in need of new tools to continue teaching our students about food: where it comes from how it grows.

The garden has provided students with opportunities to grow fresh vegetables and to sell them to the public during our monthly farmers markets.

The experiences of working in the garden have inspired students to start their own gardens at home. Student need to know what locally, organic food tastes like. Please support us as we get our students off their screens and into the outdoors. Dirty hands make happy hearts!
