My Project

My switch class is an awesome group of diverse students. They amaze me at their level of problem solving and the different strategies they use for mathematics. About one o'clock, I notice a shift from the justification of answers and math talk to the questioning of when is snack time.

I want to provide afternoon snacks for my students who do not have snack so they can refuel and continue to learn throughout the afternoon.

My students eat lunch at 11:30 am. Sometimes they do not even eat lunch if it is not something they like. By 1:00 pm, many are starving and the only thing that they can focus on is food. Over three-fourths of my students receive free or reduced breakfast or lunch. Their parents can not afford to send a snack to school for them. By providing an afternoon snack, I want to refuel my students so they can focus and learn. I am requesting snacks and candy for incentives so my students can fuel up to make the most out of their time in math class.
