My Students

First grade is a pivotal grade for LEARNING HOW TO READ! I spend a large part of my day teaching children how to read phonetically. This includes practice with rhyming words, watching me form sounds with my mouth, and blending sounds to make words. There is nothing better than watching children light up with excitement because they have learned to read!

My Project

As a first grade teacher, teaching children how to read is one of my favorite things to do. Learning and blending sounds together, reading words, and summarizing a story can be a challenge in and of itself. This year, I have an added obstacle...teaching children to read while having to wear a mask. Most days it feels like I'm shouting so that all of my students can hear me!

Recently, I learned that a voice amplifier is a piece of technology that can improve the clarity of my speaking voice when talking through a mask.

A voice amplifier comes with two important features; a microphone and a sound amplifier that can be worn like a necklace. While social distancing in the classroom, this device will help students who are sitting at both the front and back of the room to hear me clearly.

This particular voice amplifier comes with a hand held microphone that I can also use for student responses. Students can speak answers into the microphone and be heard clearly the first time, without having to repeat themselves.
