This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students work on daily assignments that call for headphones. They must complete virtual learning style instructional activities, tests where they must record themselves speaking and more. Per class, there are 30+ students so one can imagine what a class sounds like when each student is completing an assignment with a video. I am often asked if there are any headphones but because there are none available on a consistent basis throughout the school, they don’t have them as a tool to use in class. Each class is unique but the one thing all my students have in common is their ability to make do with what they have.

My students deserve better than that.

In a 21st century building, every student deserves the tools they need to be successful! My students are budding creators, artists, politicians and more. The projects we complete in class help them expand on those qualities and build on interpersonal skills, time management and all of the other skills they will need to be productive members of society.

A full classroom of 30 or more students can be stressful for many when conducting activities with sound. Even more, some students rely on headphones to block out audible distractions and help them focus. Our students should never have to make do with what they have in school- They deserve equitable access to the tools they need to help them be successful.
