My Students

Thank you to those individuals who had contributed towards funding my four classroom computers, but now I need your help one more time. I forgot to add a printer to my last project.

My students are from lower income neighborhoods in inner city New York, and most are Caribbean immigrants who are receiving an American education for the first time.

My classroom is truly international. Each day I must translate my lessons into Spanish, French, and Creole so that my "Caribbean Students" can have the same opportunity to a quality education as my English speaking students. Although Google Translate is not perfect, my international student are very appreciative for my effort.

My Project

As mentioned in my last project, classroom computers will allow students who may have been working at a slow pace a chance to catch up to the average student; as well as, allow the co-teacher to pull the international students to the back of the classroom where they can receive special instruction tailored to their specific needs, such as instant translations, visual examples, and practice problems. Having classroom computers that are connected to the in classroom printers will allow students to work on labs and research reports during lunch and after school. The in room printer will also allow me to print out a student's lost assignment, rather than the student waiting for me after class to print it in the teacher lounge. The printer will also allow the SPED and ELA teachers to print custom tailored worksheets in the back of the room to help our struggling students. Technology in the classroom is the key for all students to learn and grow successfully in their academic lives.

As education is switching and adjusting to the new common core standards, curriculums are being rewritten to include more reading and writing in the classroom.

Having technology in the classroom is now more important than ever. Allowing students to transition from "filling in the blanks" work sheets to "writing a quality research or lab report" is key to improve my students' education.
