My Students

I teach a small group of 3rd-5th grade students with a variety of cognitive, physical and speech impairments in my school's Specific Learning Supports Program. For each student, learning occurs differently and the needs of each student is never the same. But this is the beauty of the learning process in my classroom. To watch my students attack independent learning goals, while developing social relationships with their peers, has been nothing short of amazing.

My students are currently in the space where they are enjoying distance learning but still missing the classroom experience.

Often we found ourselves thinking about how things were simpler in the classroom. We're also becoming aware of the things that we need while at home. It's safe to say that my students miss each other and their school community!

My Project

Slowly but surely we are learning that items that were readily available at school are not as readily available at home. The resource in this project is needed for my students to truly maximize their at home learning experience. By providing us with a document camera, I am able to model examples of learning concepts as I would in the classroom. During virtual read-alouds, I can provide the actual book to students while assisting them with word tracking and sounding out words. We are also able to complete worksheets together, in which students are able to view my actual handwriting compared to typed words. This will be most helpful for students struggling with fine motor skills.

We will not let distance learning get the best of us and we realize that we have to go through a couple of "grows" before we reach our "glows"!

A document camera will allow my students to see my written examples and my writing in real time so that they will able to execute assignments correctly. Students will be able to annotate for note taking as well as create exemplar references for later use. For math, I am able to break down concepts in strategies such as multiplication and division by showing my students various methods to solve problems. This resource has the ability to assist us with instruction across all subjects. As my students prepare for middle school, I want to provide them with the tools to make them middle school ready! We are hoping that you will be able to assist us with being able to get as close to in person learning as possible.
