My Students

The students that will be in my class this upcoming school year are cheerful and full of questions. I know they are worried and curious about their new school experience, whether it is at home or classroom, and their new teacher. Some of these students perhaps have never been to school and may feel they are not ready.

Students come from low-income families and 100% of these students receive free school meals.

Our school, as well, has limited funds to provide the teachers with books, organizational tools such as pencil boxes, sharpeners, and markers. As an educator, I need to be prepared to provide students with basic materials to engage them in their learning.

My Project

Students will be engaged in reading these books that have been around for years. The books will capture their imagination in class and at home.

The books will be used as read alouds and at independent reading.

They will also be allowed to take them home and bring them back and exchange them for another book.

The books will also give the parents the opportunity to see and hear the enjoyment reading brings to the child by having an actual book in his or her hands. Reading is its own reward.
