My Project

My first graders can't wait to learn to read! Decodable texts help students as they are learning to read. As first graders are acquiring new skills we need a variety of engaging, colorful and interesting books that they can read. Decodable books encourage children to sound out words using decoding strategies rather than guessing from pictures or predicting from other cues.

Decodable books allow students to practice and apply the letter-sound relationships they are learning.

Decodable texts also help beginning readers develop skills by building confidence, reinforcing the alphabetic principle, and building neuronal pathways. These books serve as a stepping stone to reading more challenging books that many students need. These books would provide opportunities for students who are just learning to read to be successful.
