"I can do it all by myself!" Have you had the opportunity to see or hear the want in a child's voice to do more things independently? By giving the gift of reading a child can literally do anything! By building confidence and skill in reading students can excel in all areas.
Many of my students live in a disadvantaged, low-income, single parent community.
I have heard many times that they wish they lived in a nicer home/trailer or one of their parents went to jail the night before. My wish is to give them the skills to change the path they are on and to rise up through education and self-respect.
My Project
The carpets will create the colorful and inviting environment I want in my classroom. I want the children to feel happy and excited to come to their room. I teach in a center-style rotation and sitting on tile is not advantageous for any of us. Students need defined space to complete activities, learn self-control, and be comfortable while doing so. The TAG pens and books will allow for struggling or below-level readers to still work independently while completing many of the same activities as their grade-level peers. TAG pens also add another technology component into our 21st Century room. I want to implement any concept that will allow them to feel like strong, proud learners.
If a child can read then they can truly excel in all academic and social areas.
By helping them achieve this most important skill we have set the stage for them to succeed in all areas in life. I truly believe that if they can read they can do anything. I will do everything I can to get the materials they need to become smart, respectful, independent-thinking, problem solving children.
