My Students

My students are kindergarten-second grade students (5-8 years old) in a special education classroom in New York. All of my students have very specific learning and emotional needs which requires additional support in school. They are enthusiastic, silly, loving, and challenging.

My Project

Technology is now an unavoidable part of the everyday school curriculum. Students are in constant contact with technology throughout the school day. My classroom includes regular lessons using e-learning programs and digital books in addition to our traditional curriculum.

For younger students, learning to use technology can often become more challenging when the devices the school provides are not meant for little hands and little heads.

This project aims to provide my classroom with individual headphones especially made to adapt to their body size as well as provide audio support that will help filter out distractions.

This school year poses additional challenges since students can no longer share the normal classroom set of headphones and need their own personal pair in order to avoid spreading germs. My students will use these headphones daily to complete the curriculum using the i-Ready online learning program as well as access digital reading material on myOn.com. This year, students are also limited in their ability to access the physical classroom library so being able to read books online and listen to the material is even more crucial than ever.
