My Students

A day in a tk/kinder class is filled with the buzzing of learning with enthusiasm. The kids struggle with how to begin to read. They are very robotic when reading and I am always modeling for them how to read. One of my biggest challenges is getting the kids to hear other fluent readers beside myself.

The students in my room come to me happy and excited to be at school.

They love to learn and want to please. Many of the students come from broken homes where money is tight. Most of them have very little skills when they enter school. Our school is a cozy little home away from home. We have a very little budget to afford many extras that would help give our kids the extra edge they need to be successful. We have a wonderful staff and administration that strive to make our kids college ready with 21 century skills to succeed in the world.

My Project

My students will be using these materials during rotations, which is a time when our grade level strategically groups all the kids for small group instruction . The students work in small groups the first 90 minutes of the day where they rotate through stations st 20 minute intervals to work on targeted skills to help them become proficient. This listening center will provide the children with many examples of fluent reading and help create a love of reading. The children will be able to go to the listening center , slip on the headphones and be transported to another time and place. Reading is magical and in a young learners just fostering aclove of reading helps to motivate them to learn how to read. This project will help my students to master the skills they need to go onto the first grade. They will be better prepared to be strong readers thus setting them up to be successful with school and make their futures bright
