Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I'm with a Self Contained 4th and 5th grade bridge. Now that's a mouth full and a hand full. The children range from ADD, ADHD to ED(Emotionally Disturbed). Everyday is a new beginning with these shining stars. Officially they're in grades 5 and 6 but academically, emotionally and maturity wise they function on a 4-7 year old level. They're amazingly curious and full of wonder. My stars are hard working and full of energy. Some of them are on medication to control their impulsive behavior and outbursts. All of them hold the keys to my heart.

My Project

The Whisper Phone is a voice and tone control mechanism that assists guided reading groups control their voices as they read aloud. Through the guidance of the lead reader, children will learn to control their voices and establish a calm environment for learning. This device also helps to manage impulsive behavior by controlling the level of volume the children speak in. The Model Magic will provide Occupational Therapy as the children use it to sculpt and model. It will also enable students to express themselves through art. Some children cannot articulate as well as others. Providing a medium other than writing or speaking, allows them to be successful communicators. It's all about being able to express themselves by any means available. Whether they stutter, are autistic, have attention deficit issues or are just immature: they must be able to communicate effectively and these simple items will allow that.
