Creative Structures for Critical Thinking

Project Overview

In this project, students in grades K and 1 will engage in hands-on learning by using a variety of art supplies and toys to explore critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through building structures with materials such as building blocks, whiteboards, dry erase markers, pencils, straws, and connectors, they will learn to plan, collaborate, and express their creativity.

How Will the Specific Items Make a Difference in Their Learning?

The variety of materials will provide students with multiple avenues for exploration and expression. Building blocks promote spatial awareness and fine motor skills, while whiteboards and dry erase markers encourage brainstorming and iterative thinking. Pencils allow for sketching ideas, and straws with connectors introduce concepts of engineering and design. This diverse toolkit will empower students to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them in a supportive environment.

Goals for This Project

1. Develop Critical Thinking Skills: Encourage students to analyze problems and devise creative solutions through building and designing.

2. Enhance Collaboration: Foster teamwork as students work together to plan and build structures, sharing ideas and responsibilities.

3. Promote Creativity: Allow students to express their unique ideas and visions, reinforcing the value of individual contributions.

4. Strengthen Fine Motor Skills: Help students refine their dexterity and coordination through hands-on activities.
