Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is filled with incredible kids who are working towards their dreams and preparing themselves to go to college or right to work. We are a CTE high school providing hands on learning experiences.

As a special educator, I have found that my kids often need a place to decompress and take a break and I want to turn my office into that space for them.

Items like a comfy couch and headphones will create an safe space for our kids to tune out the stress for a bit. In a post-COVID world, we find our students are still struggling with regulating their emotions and protecting their mental health. They need spaces in school where they can take a break from the academic workload or social environment and just relax. Our student population is about 25% students with disabilities and an increasing number of them are students with Autism. This population of student especially needs a place where they can go when the classroom, lunchroom, or just the hallway become too overwhelming.
