This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Nesteled on the east-side of Detroit, with a high crime rate, proverty threshhold exceeding the national guidelines and the majority of parents with less than a high school diploma, my 20 African- American students strive for excellence each day despite the obstacles that they encounter.
Building self-esteem and the importance of community with my students is important.
My students strive to learn, explore new experiences, and use their positive character to be successful and responsible students. This is my motivation for continuted excellence in teaching my exceptional students.
My Project
The books that I selected on diversity and inclusion will expose my students to print rich material that will give them an opportunity to learn and understand the importance of their culture.
Reading books about identity will foster how my students feel about themselves and provide an opening of exploration of acceptance to other cultures in our diverse world.
By encouraging reading, the book selections will assist my students with building valuable background knowlwdge that will increase their overall comprehension and reading skills that will build solid life long readers and writers.
